Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before and after ordering seeds from a small backyard grower in Melbourne.

💳Ordering & Payment

What payment methods do you accept?

All orders are paid securely through PayPal. You don't need a PayPal account to pay — on the PayPal page, look for the option to pay as a guest with a debit or credit card instead of logging in.

Can I order more than one seed packet at once?

Yes. Add as many packets as you like to your cart before checking out — you'll only pay one flat $1.70 AUD postage fee for the whole order, no matter how many packets are in it.

Do you offer bulk or wholesale pricing?

Confirm your bulk/wholesale policy here, or remove this question if not applicable

I made a mistake on my order — can I change it?

Get in touch as soon as possible after ordering. If your order hasn't been packed and posted yet, we'll do our best to fix it for you.

🏰Shipping & Delivery

How much does shipping cost?

A flat $1.70 AUD covers postage and handling anywhere in Australia, regardless of how many packets you order. International shipping is available too — see our Shipping & Delivery page for full details.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. See our Shipping & Delivery page for countries, costs and estimated delivery times.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Full dispatch and delivery timeframes are on our Shipping & Delivery page.

🌱Seeds & Growing

Are your seeds heirloom and non-GMO?

Yes — our seeds are grown from heirloom, non-GMO plants right here in our own backyard in Melbourne, Victoria. Some varieties are also grown organically; check each individual listing for specifics.

Do you actually grow these seeds yourselves?

Yes. Every variety we sell is grown, harvested and hand-packed by us, not bought in bulk and relabelled. That's the whole idea behind Backyard Garden Seeds.

How should I store my seeds before planting?

Keep them in their original packet, somewhere cool, dark and dry — an airtight container in a cupboard or the fridge works well. Avoid humidity and temperature swings, which shorten seed life.

My seeds haven't germinated — what went wrong?

The most common causes are: soil too cold (most vegetable seeds need consistent warmth to germinate), sowing too deep, letting the soil dry out between waterings, or overwatering and causing the seed to rot. Each of our listings includes specific sowing depth and temperature guidance — that's the first place to check.

What's your germination guarantee?

Confirm your germination guarantee/testing policy here

Do your growing guides suit my climate?

Each listing includes an Australia-wide sowing calendar covering cool/mountain, temperate, subtropical, tropical and arid zones, so you can find the guidance for your own region rather than a generic overseas timeline.

🔄Returns & Refunds

My order arrived damaged — what do I do?

Contact us with a photo of the damaged packet and we'll sort out a replacement or refund.

Can I return an unopened seed packet?

Confirm your returns policy on unopened packets here

What if my seeds don't germinate at all?

Confirm what you offer here (replacement, refund, or growing advice first) — see also the germination guarantee question above
